Fall Design Trends Transitioning from Summer

Seasons change and therefore, so should our styles right? Just as we change out our wardrobes to match seasonal changes, we should do the same for our homes. As we transition from summer, fall design trends adapt to holiday festivities and aesthetics of the season. Rich jewel tones, warm accents and lush fabrics are always found in La Maison’s showroom, but as the fall season comes closer, transitioning those styles throughout your home will create a luxurious fall atmosphere. The change needn’t be complicated or dramatic; the smallest changes can make all the difference.

75dd92171540e0408369e79e28f3afcaWhen decorating for the summer months, you want cool and refreshing tones in your home. Of course you always want to have a refreshing and comfortable feel in your home, but as we transition into fall, we see a lot more warm wood pieces, modern metallic pieces for texture and layering happening. Autumnal colors present your home in a cozier way during the cooler days of fall. A popular style trend for fall is versatility and layering, and you don’t have to completely renovate your home to succeed in this look! For layering and texturing, think lush blankets with throw pillows for gorgeous color combinations. Beds are perhaps the easiest thing in the home to change for the seasons- blankets and faux fur throw to really welcome the season. Mixing up metallic and warm wood pieces in your space adds visual interest and a hint of luxury. Don’t shy away from mixing materials together in fear you will have a room of random pieces that blend different styles. Combinations of metals, wood, and fabrics that don’t overpower one another keep a consistent sophisticated and luxurious design element.
1627ce8a4e164728b5530907c8d243aeA romantic component to the fall season that is different than summer is the shortness in daylight; the sun sets earlier and so the use of candles becomes more amorous. Lighting is essential in creating a lush and luxurious atmosphere: candles are the perfect accessory for any home aesthetic. Aside from candles throughout your home, changing up your lighting features is an easy way to curate a soft and relaxed ambiance. One rule of thumb we want to note is measuring your space for the right size fixture. A chandelier is a timeless piece, and a beautiful focal point for your dining room. Speaking of dining rooms, there is no better space to represent the seasonal changes; holiday parties anyone?! Bringing natural elements into your home is a beautiful and easy way to incorporate fall decor. La Maison has luxurious tabletop accessories that will continue the trend of layering and texturing throughout your home. Warm colors are key. Think burnt orange, golden yellow, jewel toned blues and greens, and maroons for luxury. These present a lovely holiday palette as well as everyday comfort colors to feel cozy all the time.

A headboard takes a chic and stylish bedroom and makes it sophisticated no matter the style you aim to present. Like any piece of furniture, your headboard can be done in many ways. Rather than using a traditional headboard, consider options to make your bedroom really pop with a creative and chic headboard. Unique statement headboards are fantastic because they draw the eye to an exciting focal point in the room. As always, artwork is a ‘yes’ for any room in a home. It ups the luxurious aesthetic and is a beautiful way to express your personal style. Hanging a large piece of art above a bed isn’t a headboard, but it is a stylish option. To cover more surface area, gather your favorite works of art and assemble them in a collage to create the look of a headboard. The headboards that we offer in our showroom fulfill creative styles; mirrored headboards, organic wood and gorgeous upholstered ones. Mirrors make a room appear larger and create more dimension. A mirrored headboard contrasted with warm, romantic colored pillows is unique as well as luxurious.

IMG_2114If you aim for a natural and simple style in your bedroom, but also aim to have luxury and modish ambiance, we recommend organic wood features. It has the potential to give your bedroom a unique look that is also chic and brings a new element of luxury into your home. A headboard also doesn’t have to be one you buy or create. Windows as functional backdrops can be a gorgeous area to place your bed. If presented with the opportunity to utilize a window in your bedroom, flank the window with curtains, place matching table lamps with similar color scheme and you have a stylish alternative to a headboard.

A Well Lit Home Is a Luxurious Home

Whether its for reading, cooking or a romantic evening on the patio, understanding the moods in each room of your house and how they can blend together to create the aesthetic as a whole is an important part in decorating. As art pieces themselves, lighting fixtures bring new elements to the room and can up the luxury and chic styles. Floor lamps create interest at eye level and can be a focal point if desired. They allow flexibility in use, cast light up down and out simultaneously which produces even lighting in a room; they are perfect options anywhere. Recessed lighting, or canned lighting is fantastic to illuminate vanity areas in a bedroom or bathroom. Great recessed lighting should go unnoticed and blend with the ceiling to present a romantic and refined look. This lighting is based on the concept of lighting layers. Layers of lighting are placed to bounce illumination throughout a room and eliminate shadows in corners. We recommend layering your lighting in kitchens or offices, where a lot of lighting is prefered. Layering lighting also adds a luxurious element, allowing you to play with the fixtures and wattage.Wattage you say? Yes, aside from the gorgeous fixture designs and lush materials you can choose from, it is so important to know the appropriate wattage for the rooms in your home. We’ll share a handy formula we found and one you may find very helpful. If you multiply the length of the room by its width, you will find the total area. Multiply that number by 1.5 and you will get the total wattage you need to light the room. Voila!

Now don’t forget to utilize the best kind of lighting offered- daylight! Optimizing daylight will create soft lighting effects, as well as bold lighting in your home. Accompanied with other lighting fixtures, they have the potential to compliment each other well. With better color rendering than even the best halogen bulbs out there, natural lighting is ideal in complimenting electric lighting schemes.

11_112_pw13_hiresIts okay to skip the sofa. Its a common assumption that a sofa is necessary to make a living room, well, a living room. However, a secret many designers will tell you is that the perfect sofa can bring together your vision, it doesn’t have to be the center of attention. By bringing together a mix of armchairs of the same color, fabric or style, you have a unique sitting area for get-togethers, or a peaceful Sunday afternoon. Arranging them in a circular fashion around a coffee table or ottoman. By selecting six similarly styled chairs you can arrange them parallel from each other to get the illusion of a sofa shape in your space: luxurious and unique

You can use statement pieces for that element of surprise. A designers secret used to make a room really stand out is incorporating a stand out statement piece. This is not only to delight but surprise. For a lot of reasons, a statement piece is perfect to bring your style aesthetic together. For keeping your space from being boring, serving to bring cohesion to the different elements while standing out and also to dramatically change the look of the room. Statement pieces are individual things that make a huge visual impact by itself. However a collection of objects, if presented in the right ways, is an alternative to just having one item. To maximize a collection’s impact, consider displaying it uniformly, with similar spacing between objects, so you create a fun, textured and luxurious look.FullSizeRender (10)
